About Puerto Peñasco

Puerto Peñasco's pristine beaches and crystal blue waters draw vacationers year-round.

Because much of the traffic comes from the U.S., the dollar is accepted throughout the city, most signs are printed in both Spanish and English, and the town even prints an English newspaper.

Fishing and the beaches are the area's main attractions, but Puerto Peñasco offers something for everyone.

Getting There

By Land

Many Puerto Peñasco visitors choose to drive, as the route from Phoenix is about 3.5 hours. In addition, the Coastal Highway (La Costera Highway) is a 310-mile road set to run from San Luis Rio, Colorado to Guaymas San Carlos, passing through Puerto Peñasco. The first of four construction phases on the Coastal Highway was recently completed, shortening the drive time for visitors from California.

By Air

Puerto Peñasco's new international airport was dedicated in November 2009. The airport welcomes both commercial and private planes.

Nightlife

The El Mirador area of town includes restaurants, discos, and bars close to the beach.

Seafood Market

Find fresh fish, shrimp, oyster, and flounder at the seafood market in the city's Old Port area.

CET-MAR Aquarium

Visit this marine research center for an up-close look at oceanic life, including sea turtles, sea horses, sea lions, octopi and native fish species.

Golf

A Nicklaus Legacy course, designed by Jack Nicklaus and son, recently opened at the Mayan Palace Resort, just outside Puerto Peñasco. The 18-hole course is a golf lover's dream, mixing ocean-side holes with views of the sea, desert, and mountains.
